Quick answer
For most families, the best time to go to Disney World is late January through February, early May, or November outside Thanksgiving week. Those windows pair mild Orlando weather with no major school break and, except November, no hurricane season. With a toddler, avoid June through September: highs sit near 90°F and those are Orlando's four wettest months.

Disney World, month by month
Weather is the NOAA 1991–2020 monthly normals for Orlando International Airport, rounded to the nearest degree. Hurricane dates come from the National Hurricane Center's climatology page. Event dates come from Disney's own event pages, linked below. A dash means no festival or party listed.

Read the school column as a pattern, not a promise. It reflects how US school years usually run. Your district sets the real dates, and busy weeks follow breaks more reliably than any crowd score.
Toddler or school-age? The answer shifts
The right month for a two-year-old is often wrong for a nine-year-old.
With a toddler or preschooler
- Your whole calendar is open, so skip every school break.
- Heat and midday naps drive the day. January to early May and November leave room for a hotel nap.
- June through September each average more than 6 inches of rain, so plan indoor breaks.
With school-age kids
- The school calendar decides. Aim for the edges of a break, not the middle.
- Kids 3 to 9 get a discount on party tickets, so the parties are worth a look.
- Kids old enough to remember EPCOT's festivals get more from them.

The September trade-off
September looks like a bargain with kids back in class, but it sits squarely in storm season. The National Hurricane Center dates the Atlantic season from June 1 to November 30 and puts its peak at September 10, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October.
If you book late August through October
Choose a refundable room and flights you can change, and pack for daily rain. September's normal highs are still near 90°F. A storm week should cost you a rebooking, not the trip.
October keeps the late-season storm risk but brings highs down to about 85°F and cuts normal rainfall to roughly half of September's.
Parties and festivals: what Disney actually schedules
Disney's calendar adds a lot to some months. These are the 2026–27 dates from Disney's own pages:
- Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: separate-ticket nights in Magic Kingdom from August 7 to October 31, 2026. Disney lists every 2026 date as sold out.
- Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party: select nights from November 8 to December 22, 2026, 7 PM to midnight, with tickets from $189 to $229 plus tax.
- Holidays at Walt Disney World: November 13 to January 6, with EPCOT's Festival of the Holidays from November 27 to December 30, 2026.
- EPCOT Food & Wine Festival: August 27 to November 21, 2026, included with EPCOT admission.
- EPCOT Festival of the Arts runs January 15 to March 1, 2027, and Flower & Garden runs March 10 to May 31, 2027.
Party nights change the day plan. Party ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom from 4 PM. On a party date, check Magic Kingdom's posted hours in Disney's app before planning a regular day there.
December is really two months. Early December gets the decorations and the Christmas party while schools are still in session. How to pick your week
- Mark your school breaks, then list the non-break weeks you could realistically take.
- Cross out June through September if you have a child under five or anyone who wilts in the heat.
- Check the event column. Add a party or festival if your kids would love it, or avoid it if you'd rather not.
- If your week falls between June and November, book refundable.
