What can your kid ride?
Disney & Universal height checker

Enter your child's height and pick a park. You'll see every height-restricted ride they can ride, the ones they can't yet (and by how much), and the next height that unlocks more. All 83 height-restricted rides across Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood are covered, plus the main any-height rides. No signup.

Heights checked Oct 2026 from Disney and Universal's official ride pages — confirm before you go. Minimums are enforced at the ride entrance, in shoes, and parks change them without notice.

Too short for a ride? Rider Switch and Child Swap

Every resort here lets grown-ups take turns so nobody has to queue twice. Each operator names it differently.

Disneyland Resort: Rider Switch

Tell the Cast Member at the ride entrance you want Rider Switch, with your whole group there. One adult waits outside the queue with the child while the others ride; then up to two people from the waiting party board through the Rider Switch entrance without waiting in the standard line. Disney says it is available at most attractions.

Walt Disney World: Rider Switch

Ask the Cast Member at the ride entrance for Rider Switch with your whole group present. One party rides first while the other waits outside the queue with the child; afterwards up to two people from the waiting party board without waiting in the standard line. Disney publishes the list of rides that offer it on the page linked below.

Universal Orlando Resort: Child Swap

Universal's Child Swap: each ride has a family room where one adult waits with the little ones while the rest of the party rides, then you switch places so the adult who sat out gets to ride.

A child who meets a ride's minimum but is under 48 in must ride with a Supervising Companion — someone 14 or older who meets the ride's own requirements.

Universal Studios Hollywood: Child Switch

Universal Studios Hollywood's Child Switch: one of you waits with the child while the rest of the group rides, then the person who waited rides by bypassing the general admission line.

Kids between a ride's minimum and 48 in must ride with a Supervising Companion aged 14 or older.

Where these numbers come from

Disney heights are read from each ride's own page on disneyland.disney.go.com and disneyworld.disney.go.com (every Disney ride above links to the page it came from). Universal Orlando and Epic Universe heights come from Universal's Ride Height Requirements page, and a few any-height rides from its Guide for Safety and Accessibility; Universal Studios Hollywood heights come from its own height page, the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift ride page and its rider guide. We list every height-restricted ride and the main any-height rides — not shows, walk-throughs or animal trails. Seasonal overlays (Haunted Mansion Holiday, Hyperspace Mountain, Jingle Cruise) share their base ride's requirement and aren't listed twice. Water parks aren't covered.

A ride we couldn't confirm on a current official page is left out rather than guessed. The “typical age” shortcuts use the CDC stature-for-age data (50th percentile, boys and girls averaged) — your own child's measured height is what counts.

Ride heights: what parents ask

What rides can a 4 year old go on at Disneyland?
Ride limits are set by height, so it depends on how tall your 4-year-old is. The CDC's growth data puts a typical 4-year-old at about 40 inches. At 40 in, a child meets the minimum for 34 of the 36 Disneyland Park rides on our list; the exceptions are Matterhorn Bobsleds (42 in) and Indiana Jones™ Adventure (46 in). At Disney California Adventure it's 16 of 19, with Goofy's Sky School (42 in), Grizzly River Run (42 in) and Incredicoaster (48 in) still out of reach. Measure your child in park shoes and enter the number above for an exact list.
What rides can a 40 inch kid ride at Disney World?
Almost all of them. At 40 inches a child meets the minimum for 43 of the 49 Walt Disney World rides on our list across the four parks. The ones still off-limits are Space Mountain (44 in) at Magic Kingdom Park, TRON Lightcycle / Run (48 in) at Magic Kingdom Park, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (42 in) at EPCOT, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (48 in) at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Avatar Flight of Passage (44 in) at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain (44 in) at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Everything at 40 in or below — including Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Test Track, Tiana's Bayou Adventure and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror — is open to them.
What is the tallest height requirement at Disney World and Disneyland?
At Walt Disney World the highest minimum is 48 inches (122 cm): TRON Lightcycle / Run (Magic Kingdom Park) and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (Disney's Hollywood Studios). At the Disneyland Resort it is 48 inches: Incredicoaster (Disney California Adventure Park). A child who has reached 48 inches meets every Disney theme-park ride minimum on our list.
What are the height requirements at Universal Orlando and Epic Universe?
Universal Orlando's minimums run from 34 inches up to 54 inches, the highest being The Incredible Hulk Coaster (Universal Islands of Adventure). At Epic Universe a 40-inch child meets the minimum for 8 of the 11 rides on our list; Stardust Racers, Monsters Unchained and Dragon Racer's Rally need 48 inches. Universal also requires any rider under 48 inches to ride with a Supervising Companion aged 14 or older.
What are the height requirements at Universal Studios Hollywood?
Universal Studios Hollywood lists 10 rides with a minimum height, from 34 inches (The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash) up to 51 inches (Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift). Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, The Simpsons Ride, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and TRANSFORMERS need 40 inches, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey needs 48. The Studio Tour has no minimum height.
What can a child under 35 inches ride?
Plenty — every park has rides with no minimum height at all. At 34 inches, these are the counts of rides on our list a child can ride: Disneyland 27, California Adventure 11, Magic Kingdom 17, EPCOT 7, Hollywood Studios 3, Animal Kingdom 3, Universal Studios Florida 4, Islands of Adventure 4, Epic Universe 3, Universal Hollywood 3. Disney's lowest minimums are 32 inches (Autopia, Tomorrowland Speedway, the Cars Land spinners and Alien Swirling Saucers); Universal's are 34 inches (E.T. Adventure, Yoshi's Adventure and The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash).
What is Rider Switch, and does Universal have it?
Rider Switch is Disney's take-turns service: with your whole group at the ride entrance, tell a Cast Member; one party rides while the other waits outside the queue with the child, then up to two people from the waiting party board without waiting in the standard line. Universal Orlando calls its version Child Swap, using a family room at each ride, and Universal Studios Hollywood calls it Child Switch.
