About us

Research-first family travel.
No fluff, no paid rankings.

We built Tots & Trips because planning a trip with young kids is genuinely hard — and most travel sites either ignore the parent perspective entirely or bury the real friction behind aspirational photography.

What we cover

Age-suitability at a glance

Every destination shows a verified strip for infants through teens — not a single blob 'kid-friendly' label.

Door-to-door travel time

Flight time from 100+ US airports, including connection penalties and typical airport transit.

Month-by-month weather

Not just 'best months to visit' — actual rainy days, humidity, and a parent verdict for each month of the year.

Real friction, not highlights

The cobblestones that break strollers, the beaches with undertows, the food that upsets toddler stomachs — documented upfront.

Ballpark costs

Hotel, food, activities, and flights from major US hubs. Directional estimates with verified dates so you know how fresh the data is.

Day-by-day itineraries

Age-tailored plans for the destinations families ask about most — not generic day-1/day-2 tourist loops.

Every destination profile is built from primary sources. We don't recycle other blogs.

How we verify

01

Primary source research

We pull cost and logistics data directly from official tourism boards, government travel advisories, and major booking platforms — not secondary blog posts.

02

Age-group filtering

Every destination gets evaluated across five age groups (infants through teens). An activity that's perfect for an 8-year-old might be genuinely dangerous for an 18-month-old.

03

Friction analysis

We surface the real friction points parents hit — cobblestone streets, no-shade beaches, unpasteurized food risks — not just the highlight reel.

04

Regular review cycles

Costs and conditions shift. Each destination shows a verified date so you know when data was last reviewed. Destination costs are directional estimates; always check live prices before booking.

Editorial independence

No destination, hotel, or activity provider can pay for a higher ranking or a favorable review on Tots & Trips. Rankings are calculated from our TotScore formula (kid-friendliness, flight time, weather, cost, and activity density) — and no money changes that.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on Tots & Trips — particularly to booking platforms, gear recommendations, and hotel searches — are affiliate links. If you click through and make a booking, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These commissions help keep the site free. They never influence our rankings or research.
