Disney hotel or Good Neighbor hotel?
Disney runs three hotels at the resort. Everything else nearby is independent, and Disney calls the ones it approves Good Neighbor hotels, some "as close as across the street."
The perk for staying with Disney changed on January 5, 2026. The old 30-minute early entry is gone. Each registered guest now gets one Lightning Lane entry to one eligible Lightning Lane Multi Pass ride, on one day of the stay. Everyone 3 and up still needs a park ticket and a park reservation. For most families, one skipped line is not worth a large price gap, so the Grand Californian's private gate is the stronger reason to pay up.

The Grand Californian has a direct entrance into Disney California Adventure for hotel guests with park admission and a reservation. Standard rooms sleep up to five, and one-bedroom suites sleep six, per Disney's room list. There are three pools, and princess breakfasts run in the Trillium Room. It's the easiest midday nap break at the resort.
Disneyland Hotel: waterslides and big suites

Disney describes the Disneyland Hotel as a short stroll to both parks, steps from Downtown Disney. Kids get two monorail-themed waterslides, and the Villas pool has a Steamboat Willie splash pad. Standard rooms sleep five. Family suites run from six guests to 14 in a three-bedroom connecting suite, and Deluxe Studios in the Villas add a kitchenette for four.
Pixar Place Hotel: suites for large groups

Pixar Place sits on Disneyland Drive and uses the park entrance inside the Grand Californian. Standard rooms sleep five, and the three-bedroom Pixel Suite sleeps 14.
Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites: the 2-minute walk

The Desert Inn faces the East Disney Esplanade, the walkway between the two parks, and says its front door is two minutes from the entrance. Two-bedroom suites sleep up to ten, the largest non-Disney rooms in this list. It adds a continental breakfast, an indoor heated pool and a rooftop deck for fireworks.
Best Western Plus Park Place Inn: across from the gates

Park Place Inn is directly across the street from the main pedestrian entrance, at 1544 S. Harbor Boulevard. The mini-suites have two queens and a sofa bed, and a free daily breakfast buffet helps on early park days.

Marriott's Courtyard quotes an 8- to 10-minute walk. Rooms have twin bunk beds plus a queen or king, and bathrooms with two sinks and a separate shower. Surfside Waterpark is guest-only, open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with two 30-foot slides, a tipping bucket and a beach-entry wading pool. Valet parking was $46.80 a night on Marriott's page in October 2026, and it's the only parking option.
Howard Johnson Anaheim: a splash zone for little kids

Howard Johnson by Wyndham says both parks are within walking distance. Castaway Cove has a pirate ship with water cannons, a curvy waterslide, 13 spray fountains and a beach-entry wading pool, and every room has a mini fridge and microwave. Parking for one car was $25 a night plus tax on the hotel's page in October 2026.
Renovation notice: the hotel's own page says Buildings 3–6 are under renovation until June 2027. Ask which building your room is in, and whether the water playground is fully open for your dates, before you book.
The Westin Anaheim Resort: the longer, calmer walk

The Westin is across Katella Avenue from California Adventure and quotes 15 to 20 minutes on foot through Downtown Disney. It says it holds Disney's top Good Neighbor category, Superior. Pick it if parents want a quieter, upscale base and the kids can handle the walk.
Which airport for Disneyland?
Five airports work for a Disneyland trip. Disney's getting-here-by-plane page gives an approximate distance from each one to the resort, read in October 2026. These are Disney's round figures, not timed drives: Los Angeles traffic decides how long the ride takes.

Disney's page lists Long Beach slightly nearer than John Wayne yet calls John Wayne the closest, so treat the two as equally short transfers. With small kids, the shorter ride usually wins if SNA or LGB has a flight that suits you. Visit Anaheim notes LAX carries far more airlines, so it often has the nonstop or the fare the smaller airports don't. Price the whole trip, including the ride to Anaheim, before you pick.
How to choose
- Toddler who naps: the Grand Californian, or the Desert Inn and Park Place Inn across Harbor.
- Five or more in one room: any of Disney's three hotels, or a Desert Inn two-bedroom suite.
- Pool-first kids: the Courtyard's Surfside Waterpark or the Disneyland Hotel's slides.
- Watching the budget: Candy Cane Inn, with breakfast and parking included.
Before you book
- Check the room's real walk. Hotels quote their front door, not the far end of the building.
- Add parking. In October 2026 it ranged from included at Candy Cane Inn to $46.80 a night for valet at the Courtyard. Fees change, so check the hotel's page.
- Get park reservations first. Disney requires a ticket and a park reservation for the same park on the same date for everyone 3 and up.
