Disney hotel or Good Neighbor hotel?
Disney runs three hotels at the resort. Everything else nearby is independent, and Disney calls the ones it approves Good Neighbor hotels, some "as close as across the street."
The perk for staying with Disney changed on January 5, 2026. The old 30-minute early entry is gone. Each registered guest now gets one Lightning Lane entry to one eligible Lightning Lane Multi Pass ride, on one day of the stay. Everyone 3 and up still needs a park ticket and a park reservation. For most families, one skipped line is not worth a large price gap, so the Grand Californian's private gate is the stronger reason to pay up.

The Grand Californian has a direct entrance into Disney California Adventure for hotel guests with park admission and a reservation. Standard rooms sleep up to five, and one-bedroom suites sleep six, per Disney's room list. There are three pools, and princess breakfasts run in the Trillium Room. It's the easiest midday nap break at the resort.
Disneyland Hotel: waterslides and big suites

Disney describes the Disneyland Hotel as a short stroll to both parks, steps from Downtown Disney. Kids get two monorail-themed waterslides, and the Villas pool has a Steamboat Willie splash pad. The Desert Inn faces the East Disney Esplanade, the walkway between the two parks, and says its front door is two minutes from the entrance. The Westin is across Katella Avenue from California Adventure and quotes 15 to 20 minutes on foot through Downtown Disney. It says it holds Disney's top Good Neighbor category, Superior. Pick it if parents want a quieter, upscale base and the kids can handle the walk.

- Toddler who naps: the Grand Californian, or the Desert Inn and Park Place Inn across Harbor.
- Five or more in one room: any of Disney's three hotels, or a Desert Inn two-bedroom suite.
- Pool-first kids: the Courtyard's Surfside Waterpark or the Disneyland Hotel's slides.
- Watching the budget: Candy Cane Inn, with breakfast and parking included.
Before you book
- Check the room's real walk. Hotels quote their front door, not the far end of the building.
- Add parking. It ranges from included at Candy Cane Inn to $46.80 a night for valet at the Courtyard.
