Treehouse Kids' Adventure Center is state-licensed childcare for ages 1 through 4, and the kids' ski program starts at 2½, with groups running up to 13–17. Aspen's airport sits six miles from Snowmass Village and lists nonstops from Los Angeles and San Francisco. The resort says 95% of Snowmass lodging is ski-in, ski-out. It doesn't publish a beginner share; neighboring Buttermilk is the mountain the resort pitches for beginner-friendly trails.
Smugglers' Notch, Vermont: the baby-friendly East Coast pick

Treasures, the resort's state-licensed childcare center, takes children from 6 weeks to 3 years, grouped into three age rooms. The resort says spaces fill quickly and recommends booking when you reserve your stay. Its Snow Sport University kids' program covers ages 3 to 15. Burlington's airport is about 35 miles away, and the resort puts the drive from Boston at roughly four hours.
Deer Valley, Utah: infant care and ski-only slopes

The Children's Center at Snow Park Lodge is state-licensed for non-skiing children from 2 months to 12 years. Its Fawn Special for 3-year-olds builds a one-hour private lesson into a Children's Center day. Deer Valley is ski-only (no snowboards), and its FAQ classes 27% of runs as beginner. Salt Lake City's airport is a 38-mile drive. A teen who snowboards will need another mountain.
Keystone, Colorado: a nursery from 6 months

Keystone Children's Center in River Run takes kids from 6 months to 5 years; it doesn't include ski lessons. Child group lessons run ages 3–14 for skiers and 7–14 for snowboarders. The catch is terrain: the resort lists 12% beginner, the lowest published figure here, so it suits families with a mix of confident skiers and one non-skier.
Big Sky, Montana: room to grow for teens

Big Sky lists 5,850 acres, 21% beginner and 19% expert or extreme terrain. Lone Peak Playhouse childcare covers 6 months to 8 years at Mountain Village and Madison Base, and children 2 and up can add a lesson to their day. Bozeman's airport is about an hour away, with nonstops that include LAX and SFO.
Steamboat, Colorado: kids 12 and under ski free

Under Kids Ski Free, a child 12 or under skis free for the same days when a parent, grandparent or guardian buys a 5-day-or-longer adult ticket before the season starts; Ikon and season passes don't qualify. At Greenhorn Ranch, Ski With Me gives ages 2–4 one-hour private lessons, and the youngest group (3 to 3½) doesn't require potty training. Winter nonstops into Hayden include LAX and SFO.
Beaver Creek, Colorado: a dedicated learning park

Northstar, California: the Bay Area drive-to

Northstar lists 13% beginner terrain. Its youngest ski group, Chickadees, is for 3- and 4-year-olds who are potty trained. No childcare is listed, so non-skiing toddlers need a parent or sitter. The Village is built around an ice rink. The resort's getting-here page puts Reno's airport at 45 minutes, Sacramento at 2 hours and San Francisco at 3.5 hours by car.
Before you book: three details families miss
- Childcare books out first. Deer Valley calls advance reservations essential all season, especially over the December holidays and Presidents' Day week. Reserve care before lessons.
- Free-ticket offers have deadlines. Steamboat's Kids Ski Free must be bought before the winter season starts; it isn't sold in-season.
- Helmets are part of lessons. Steamboat requires helmets for every lesson participant 17 and under and includes one in rental packages for ages 12 and under. Other resorts set their own rules, so check before you pack.
