Day-by-Day Plan

Day 1: Arrival & Resort Settle-In

Morning

Fly into Cancún International (CUN). Pre-arrange an airport transfer with a car seat through Happy Shuttle Cancún — they guarantee infant seats if you book 48 hours ahead.

Afternoon

Check into your resort. The Hyatt Ziva Cancún is excellent for babies — they provide cribs, bottle warmers on request, and the pool area has a shaded shallow section. Spend the afternoon letting baby splash in the pool and adjusting to the heat. Stay hydrated.

Evening

Eat at the resort's buffet restaurant — easiest option with a baby on day one. Most Cancún all-inclusives have high chairs and will blend or warm food for infants. Request a corner table for more privacy if nursing.

💡 Tip: Ask the resort for a mini-fridge if your room doesn't have one — essential for storing breast milk, formula, or baby food. Most Cancún resorts provide this free on request.

Est. cost: $80-150 (transfer)

Day 2: Beach Morning & Lagoon Afternoon

Morning

Head to Playa Langosta in the Hotel Zone — it's the calmest beach in Cancún with almost no waves, shallow entry, and soft sand. Set up under a palapa early (before 9am) for natural shade. Let baby sit in the wet sand at the water's edge. The water here is bathtub-warm and barely ankle-deep for several meters out.

Afternoon

After baby's nap back at the resort, take a stroller walk along the Nichupté Lagoon boardwalk near Km 16.5. The flat path is fully paved, shaded in sections, and you'll spot iguanas and herons. Baby will love the colors and movement.

Evening

Dinner at Puerto Madero in the Hotel Zone — upscale but surprisingly baby-friendly. They have high chairs, the tables are spaced far apart (no bumping strollers), and the sunset lagoon view keeps everyone calm. Order the grilled fish — it's easy to mash small pieces for older babies starting solids.

💡 Tip: Mexican sun is intense even in winter. Use SPF 50+ mineral sunscreen on baby (zinc oxide only for under 6 months). Limit direct sun exposure to before 10am and after 4pm.

Est. cost: $60-120

Day 3: Interactive Aquarium & Downtown Color

Morning

Visit the Interactive Aquarium Cancún at La Isla Shopping Village (Km 12.5 Hotel Zone). It's fully air-conditioned — a lifesaver on hot days. The touch pools are shallow enough for you to hold baby over them. Stroller-accessible throughout. The jellyfish exhibit with its color-changing lights mesmerizes babies. Go right at 10am opening to avoid cruise-ship crowds.

Afternoon

Take a taxi to Parque de las Palapas in downtown Cancún (20 min from Hotel Zone). This local park has shaded benches, a small playground, and street vendors selling fresh fruit. It's where Mexican families bring their own babies — you'll blend right in. Great for a relaxed stroller walk. Stop at Cielito Querido Café on the park's edge for iced horchata.

Evening

Early dinner at Lorenzillo's (Km 10.5 Hotel Zone) — they have a dock-side terrace where babies can watch pelicans diving. Arrive by 5:30pm before it gets busy. High chairs available. The lobster bisque is smooth enough for baby to try a tiny taste.

💡 Tip: Downtown Cancún is safe during the day and significantly cheaper than the Hotel Zone. A taxi from the Hotel Zone to Parque de las Palapas costs about 150-200 pesos ($8-12 USD).

Est. cost: $50-100

Day 4: Lazy Pool Day & Spa

Morning

Stay at the resort. This is your recovery day — babies need downtime and so do you. Use the resort's baby pool or splash pad area. The Hyatt Ziva has a shallow zero-entry pool section that's perfect. Float baby in an infant swim ring (bring your own — most resorts don't provide them for safety reasons).

Afternoon

If your resort has a spa, book a couples massage with alternating baby watch — one parent goes while the other stays poolside. At the Hyatt Ziva, the spa offers 25-minute express massages perfect for parents who can't be gone long. Otherwise, nap when baby naps.

Evening

Room service dinner. Seriously — after 4 days of restaurants with a baby, eating in your room in pajamas is a luxury. Order something you can eat one-handed. Watch the sunset from your balcony.

💡 Tip: Don't feel guilty about a 'do nothing' day. Babies get overstimulated by travel. A calm day at the resort often means a better night's sleep for everyone.

Est. cost: $40-80

Day 5: Morning Market & Departure

Morning

If your flight is afternoon, squeeze in a morning visit to Mercado 28 in downtown Cancún. It's a covered market with colorful stalls — great sensory stimulation for baby. Buy a small handwoven toy or rattle as a souvenir. The market opens at 9am and is cooler inside than out. Keep baby in a carrier here, not a stroller — the aisles are narrow.

Afternoon

Head to the airport. Allow extra time — CUN is busy and security lines can be long. Nurse or bottle-feed during takeoff and landing to help baby's ears equalize. Pack extra diapers in your carry-on; delays happen.

Evening

Travel home.

💡 Tip: Gate-check your stroller for free on most airlines flying out of CUN. Ask at the ticket counter, not at the gate, to avoid last-minute hassles. Bring a large ziplock bag to protect the stroller wheels.

Est. cost: $30-60

Packing List

  • mineral sunscreen SPF 50+ (zinc oxide)
  • portable white noise machine
  • baby carrier (Ergobaby or similar)
  • clip-on portable high chair
  • lightweight muslin blankets for shade
  • inflatable baby pool ring
  • collapsible stroller with sun shade

Safety Notes

Tap water in Cancún is not safe for babies — use bottled water for formula mixing and rinsing pacifiers. Most resort pools are chlorinated to US standards. Playa Langosta and Playa Tortugas are the calmest beaches; avoid the open-ocean side of Punta Cancún where currents are strong.
